Critical Biological Raw Materials- Sourcing, Obtaining and Purification

“What comes out is only as good as what goes in” is a saying we embrace.  Even though a cheap chemical might work for one or two experiments, over the years a great product exists, it is not wise to rely on a quick fix.

As expected for any high quality medical product, the source and reliability as well as further purification under strict control is paramount to the end product’s level of quality.

IMG_0083At QCDC the development of products start with understanding the essential raw materials incorporated into the final product.  Initially only personally qualified suppliers are used for formulation experiments where precision and stability under stress are determined.  Understanding the logistics of securing raw materials (i.e. chemicals easily ordered in any Sigma Catalog) that are reliable and through decades, hold up to the scrutiny of in house and external audits, requires experience in this area.  This includes chemicals newly mfg and sold within many catalogs currently available.

Here at QCDC we pride ourselves in being able to ask the right questions to the appropriate persons at a company in order to determine if the chemicals/biological materials offered are truly of dependable high quality and worthy of initial experiments to develop a “Gold Standard” diagnostic product.  This expertise comes through 75 years experience between the two main consulting employees.

For critical raw materials QCDC is able to conduct visits to the supplier, asking important questions and ascertaining whether or not this company is really able to supply high quality critical raw materials for years to come.  Much of the past success of products marketed today (from our past experience) is in large part due to the initial cooperation and agreements with the original critical raw material suppliers.

Paul Weigert has been sourcing and purifying raw materials for over 35 years.  He has had very good success in identifying reliable suppliers and unreliable suppliers.  Most likely this is because Paul has been in the trenches and knows what it takes to secure and control a lot of raw materials.  Boehringer Mannheim was without a doubt the #1 standard for high quality biological purified materials for research and development around the world from the 1960’s to 2000.  And Mr. Weigert was a hero on campus.  See more on Mr. Weigert’s Page
