Paul Weigert

Mr. Weigert started working at Boehringer Mannheim at the Tutzing facility in 1968 and worked till 1994 in R&D isolating natural substances from different sources
for diagnostic and research products. Mr. Weigert then moved with the department to a new facility in Penzberg and continued there till early retirement in 2004.

Over his career Mr. Weigert helped commercialize many successful products for Boehringer Mannheim which had the distinct reputation for offering the highest
quality biological products which were purchased world wide for use in diagnostics and research.

In 1990 Paul Weigert was asked to move to Indianapolis, Indiana (USA) to help Jim Hill on the Boehringer Mannheim CoaguChek Fingerstick PT/INR Project.  Mr. Weigert was invaluable in his efforts to secure rabbit brains for developing high quality acetone brain powder as well as thromboplastin for use in the strip chemistry.  This was the beginning of many years collaboration between Mr. Weigert and Mr. Hill which is still ongoing today.

The Boehringer Mannheim CoaguChek system was introduced in 1993 and was the gold standard of Point of Care Oral Anticoagulant PT/INR testing for another 10 years.  Paul and Jim have been friends ever since.

Paul Weigert hikingPaul is retired and lives in Penzberg, Germany with a lovely garden including many species of cactus and a gold fish pond (not to mention the frequent visiting deer).  An avid outdoorsman, Paul is a member of the Bavarian Mountain Hikers Club in addition to being a registered Hunter.
